Mini Spike

Raven 4 Mini Spike…

On Tuesday we departed for our first ever Spike.  Just a mini one this time, so we could practice living and working with each other.  Our team got chosen to work with Habitat for Humanity in New Castle County in Wilmington, Delaware.  It was AWESOME! 

Habitat for Humanity is an international non profit organization that works to build and repair houses for people in need of adequate housing.  They do not give away the houses, and the homeowners themselves are required to work at the construction sites and build (not necessarily their own) homes.  This strengthens the habitat community, and teaches the homeowners necessary skills to maintain their home.

While working on the Millstone row of houses we met multiple homeowners who would be living in the houses we were standing in.

Meet Gloria and Shani.  They went to high school together and will soon be neighbors when they both move into the Millstone houses.

Some of the different skills and projects throughout the spike that we did include:

Painting

Hammering

Fire caulking

weatherizing houses

We loved Habitat.  It was hard work and early hours, but we hope to come back for a full Spike later this year, or for independent service hours!
